I like Halloween, don't get me wrong. I was just never really into the whole dressing up thing. I like the idea, I just don't particularly care to wear the costume that long. It's usually uncomfortable and when it comes down to it, I can never think of anything creative. So if I'm not a flapper girl (my only actual costume I've bought), I throw on a dress and mask or something costume-y. This year I have a few costume ideas, most of which are simple and thrifty.
1. Hipster Ariel
2. Superhero Alter Ego
3. Twilight Vampire Slayer
4. Comic Book Character
5. Masked Elegance
= Hipster Ariel
Superhero Alter Ego:
Button Up Shirt
Superman Graphic Tee
= Clark Kent/Superman (you could also add a tie and glasses!)
Twilight Vampire Slayer:
Black Leather Classy Buffy the Vampire Slayer-style outfit and wooden stake
Bottle of Silver or White Glitter and Label Reading "Edward Cullen's Ashes"
= Vampire Slayer who killed Edward Cullen
I like Twilight, I just think this is hilarious, and I like Buffy more.
Comic Book Character:
If you have time and do want a full costume, this is awesome. Go to a thrift store and find a 50s style dress you can paint on, a brightly colored wig, and some acrylic paint or Halloween makeup. Find any generic comic book character online and imitate it. I love this idea!
This is my standby idea, you get a pretty dress (remember the Glitter & Grotesque post) and find a beautiful mask. The mask below is by Tom Banwell, who has tons of gorgeous masks on his Etsy store.
